Aleardo Menegazzi showed great promise as an amateur, particularly after winning the gold medal in the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the 1924 Olympics. However, he did not fulfil that early promise as a professional, and only won races of minor importance. He competed in the Giro d’Italia six times, but never managed to finish the race. He appeared once in the Tour de France, in 1930. Menegazzi ended his competitive racing career in 1934
