In the late 1960s and early 1970s French cyclist Jean-Claude Meunier had several victories as an amateur to earn a place on the Olympic team. In 1972 Meunier was part of the French quartet that placed 18th in the team time trial at the München Games. The following year he turned professional, riding in the Vuelta a España. After a handful of victories, he returned to the amateur ranks in 1977 before retiring a year later. Meunier was only 35-years-old when he died in December 1985.
