Biography

Christian Meyer was a road cyclist who was on the gold medal winning German 100 km team time trial at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. In the individual road race he placed 68th. One year later he also won the gold medal at the World Championships with the team time trial.

In 1994 Meyer fell severely at the Giro d’Italia and fell into a coma, and although he recovered, he was rendered permanently paraplegic. By profession, he was a bank clerk. Meyer was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1993, Germany’s highest sports award.
