Biography

Jim Nestor was an Australian competitive cyclist who was active after the end of World War II. In 1948 Nestor competed in the road race at the London Olympics but did not finish the course. He also rode in the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the Games, with Australia tying for fifth after reaching the quarter-finals. One year later he won the Goulburn to Sydney Classic one-day race, setting a then fastest time. A few years later Nestor just missed out on a medal at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver when he finished fourth in the road race. At the Games he also rode in the 4,000 metres individual pursuit on the track. Two years later Nestor returned to the Olympics for the 1956 Melbourne Games but once again did not finish in the road race.
