Biography

Serbian cyclist Veselin Petrović began cycling as a teenager and went on to win multiple titles at the Yugoslav national championships. Petrović had his first major win in 1951, winning the overall classification of the Tour of Macedonia. Two years later he won his first national road race title, before winning the Tour of Yugoslavia in 1954. In 1956 he won his second national road race title and finished third at the Tour of Yugoslavia, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. At the Melbourne Games he placed 26th in the individual road race, almost six minutes behind the race winner.

In 1957 Petrović once again finished third at the Tour of Yugoslavia, along with third in the road race at the national championships. That same year he also had his best result at the Peace Race, finishing ninth overall in the general classification. Petrović made his second appearance at the Olympics at the 1960 Roma Games where he came 15th in the 100 kilometres team time trial. Following his competitive career Petrović became the sports director for both the Tour of Yugoslavia and the Tour of Serbia. He later served as the President of the Serbian Cycling Federation.
