Biography

Eugen Pleško was a Croatian cyclist who competed for Yugoslavia at the 1972 München Olympics, although he did not finish the road race due to injury. He had been on the winning road race team at the 1971 Mediterranean Games. After winning the 1972 Memorijal Stjepan Grgac, he was voted Yugoslavia’s top cyclist in 1972, winning the Golden Wheel Trophy, despite his Olympic problems.

Pleško won the Memorijal Stjepan Grgac again in 1974 and that year also made his only appearance in the Peace Race, finishing 81st. After he stopped racing Pleško became a trainer at Zagreb Cycling Club and was also coach of the Croatian road team, leading them at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
