Cyclist Josef Pohnetal won the Austrian Road Race Championship in 1949 and was second in 1950. He rode the Tour of Switzerland in 1949 but did not finish. He later had a brief career riding in six-day events.
At the 1948 London Olympics, Pohnetal was eliminated in the second round of the 4,000 metres team pursuit. He also competed in the road race but could not finish the course. Consequently, the team was unplaced.
