Biography

Julio Polet was an Argentine cyclist who competed on both the road and track, specialising in the latter. In 1924 Polet was selected as part of Argentina’s delegation to participate at the Paris Olympics. At the Games he competed in the road race, finishing ninth in the combined team classification. He also rode in the 50 kilometres and sprint on the track, reaching the round one repêchage in the latter before being eliminated. Back home in Argentina he and Antonio Del Gesso won the 24-hour race at the Huracán track in April 1927. A few days later the pair won the 12-hour race at Parque Sarmiento in Córdoba. Polet was later honoured when a cycling track in Mar del Plata was named after him.
