Biography

In the first half of the 1930s Finnish cyclist Thor Porko won four editions of the Kokkolan ajo amateur road race (1930–31, 1933–34) before winning it for a fifth time in 1939. Porko also became the Finnish national road race champion in 1930 and won the national individual time trial title one year later. He also had success on the track, becoming the Finnish sprint champion in 1934 and 1935, adding scratch race titles in 1935 and 1937.

Porko won his second Finnish road race title in July 1936 and competed at the Berlin Olympics a month later. At the Games he was in the main peloton of more than 20 riders who tied for 16th place in the road race, just three seconds behind the winning time. He also rode in the 1,000 metres time trial on the velodrome but finished last of the 18 riders who recorded a time.
