From 1919 to 1921 Josef Procházka had three consecutive second-place finishes at the national cycling road championships in Czechoslovakia. His consistent results earned Procházka a place on the Olympic team for the 1920 Antwerpen Games, where he finished 34th in the road race. His biggest win came a year later when he won the 1921 edition of the Praha- Karlovy Vary-Praha one-day race.
