Early in 1948 Swiss cyclist Walter Reiser finished second in the Championship of Zürich amateur race to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. At the London Games Reiser finished 25th in the road race and sixth in the team event. In 1950 he became the national individual pursuit champion on the track, in addition to turning professional. During the next two years he rode at the Tour de France, but did not finish either attempt. Reiser had better success at his home race, the Tour de Suisse, finishing 15th in the general classification in 1951.
