Biography

Herbert Richter won the silver medal in the team pursuit with the East German squad at the 1972 München Olympics, losing the final to West Germany. Richter started his career by winning the 1965 team trial event at the Youth National Championships. In 1970-71 and 1974, he won silver medals with the pursuit team at the World Championships, again losing the final to West Germany on each occasion. Richter won two national titles, in the Madison and the team pursuit in 1973. By profession he was a mechanical engineer in the construction industry.
