Uwe Raab

East German cyclist Uwe Raab finished 23rd in the individual road race at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1983 he won the World Championships, and was voted Sportsman of the Year in the former GDR. From 1983-89 he rode seven International Peace Races and won eight stages. From 1982-84 he won three consecutive individual time trial national titles.

Raab turned professional after re-unification and rode with Dutch team PDM (1990-92), and later with the German Team Telekom (1993-95). In 1990-91 and 1993-94 he participated in the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España, winning the points classification at the Vuelta in 1990 and 1991. After his retirement Raab became sporting director with cycling team Nürnberger, and also owned a bicycle shop at Dessau.
