Biography

Safarrudin Zain was a Malaysian cyclist who competed in the road race at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Zain won the 1955 Round Island Race, the 1957 Island Echo Cup, and the 1960 Anson Bay Gut Cup and Ipoh-Butterworth Hopper Cup. He placed third at the 1963 Malaysia Tour.

Zain was the first cyclist to represent Malaysia at the Olympics. He left cycling after the Olympics and focused on his job as a cargo handler at a shipping company. He was a member of the National Athlete Welfare Foundation (YAKEB). For his services and involvement in the field of Sports and Children of Penang, he was awarded the Devotional Service Medal (PJK) by the President of Penang in 2015.
