During the 1960s road cyclist Pedro Sánchez was a mainstay at the Vuelta a Colombia, winning six stages, along with the overall race classification in 1968. During the decade Sánchez also rode for the Colombian national team at multiple international competitions. In 1964 he was part of the quartet that placed 21st in the team time trial at the Tokyo Olympics. Two years later Sánchez won gold in the team road race at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Juan. He made his second appearance at the Olympics in 1968, finishing 30th in the road race at the Mexico City Games.
