Austrian cyclist Eugen Schnalek was a member of the road race team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics that finished fifth. Individually he was tied 16th. Schnalek won the national road race title the same year. He was killed during World War II (in 1944 or 1945) during the Ardennes Offensive (Battle of the Bulge); the exact date is unknown, but he was declared dead on 11 January 1945.
