Guy Sibille

After a couple of wins at amateur cycling races in the early 1970s, Guy Sibille was selected to represent France at the 1972 München Olympics. Sibille was part of the quartet that placed 18th in the team time trial at the Games before turning professional. Sadly, however, he was unable to produce consistent form as a pro rider, having just a few minor wins during his career. In 1975 he did manage to finish on the podium at the Milan–San Remo one-day classic, losing out in a sprint finish to Eddy Merckx (BEL) and Francesco Moser (ITA).

Sibille had his best results in 1976, starting off by becoming the French national road race champion. Later that month he finished second on stage 5b at the Tour de France, once again losing out in a sprint finish, this time to Miguel Lasa (ESP). Altogether Sibille rode in five consecutive editions of the Tour from 1974 to 1978, with a best overall finish of 40th in 1977. He also rode at the Vuelta a España in 1974 and the Giro d’Italia in 1979. After retiring in 1980 he ran his own cycling clothing company.
