Mauro Simonetti was an Italian road cyclist who helped Italy to a bronze medal at the 1968 Olympic Games in the team time trial. He turned professional in 1970 and rode in the pro peloton until 1979. As a neo-pro he seemed destined for success when he won the Gran Premio Città di Camaiore but he never quite lived up to that potential.
Simonetti was a sprinter and rouleur who had most of his success in one-day races, winning the 1972 Coppa Agostoni and 1973 Coppa Sabatini. He finished six editions of the Giro d’Italia, with a best finish of 21st in 1970, and two Tours de France, placing 19th in 1971 when he won stage six from Amiens-Le Touquet. He raced at three World Championships, although he did not finish any of these races. Simonetti raced for Ferretti, Sammontana, Filotex, Sanson, and Fiorella Mocassini.
