János Söre

János Söre was a Hungarian track cyclist, coach, and firefighter who won 15 championship titles during his career. Söre was an eight-time champion in the 1,000 metres time trial (1955–60, 1962, 1965) and four-time champion in the 4,000 metres team pursuit (1956, 1962, 1964–65). He also won titles in the tandem (1956), flying start time trial (1957), and the 4,000 metres individual pursuit (1962). In 1957 Söre set national records in the kilometre time trial and the 200 metres, both of which stood until 1972.

From 1955 to 1963 Söre was a member of the Hungarian national cycling team. He rode in the 1,000 metres time trial at the 1960 Roma Olympics where he finished in 10th place. Söre worked as a cycling coach from 1966 to 1972 with one of his students, Gyula Takács, becoming the Hungarian champion. Outside of cycling Söre was a firefighter, working in the role from 1958 until his retirement in 1990 where he had reached the rank of lieutenant colonel.
