An integral member of the British team pursuit for well over a decade, Bryan Steel was introduced to cycling by his brother at the 14. He competed at four Olympic Games,14 World Championships and three Commonwealth Games during an 18-year international career. Although a global title always eluded him he won seven medals (2 Olympic, 5 World championship) at major championships between 1994 and 2004 and won the British national title in the madison in 1994 (with Rob Hayles and 1996 (with Simon Lillistone. Though primarily a track rider he also regularly competed on the roads though with less success. Steel retired after the Athens Olympics and became a motivational speaker. He also works for a series of charities and sporting bodies.
