Biography

Brothers James and Robert Stevenson both rode for West Benhar and regularly competed against each other. James’ fellow Olympian David Stevenson (not related), was also often in the same field, and the three men took it in turns to win club events. It was James who upheld the family honour at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, and was selected for the Scotland team that finished fourth in the road race. Individually, James finished 68th out of 94 finishers from a starting field of 123.
