Javier Suárez was a top Colombian rider in the 1960s, winning the Tour of Colombia in 1965, and the Clasico Radio Cadena Nacional (RCN) in 1965-66. He also placed second at the Tour Colombia for three consecutive years, 1966-68, and was third in 1962, fourth in 1963, and fifth in 1964. Suárez rode at the 1965 World Championships, placing 68th in the amateur road race, and 16th with the Colombian team in the team time trial.
