Jimmy Swift had the following podium finishes at major championships: 2nd in the 1952 Olympics Team Pursuit, 3rd in the 1956 Olympics 1000 metres Time Trial; 1st in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Track Time Trail. He also finished seventh in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games road race. In the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he finished fifth in the track time trail as well as in the Sprint 1000 metres. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games Sprint 1000 metres he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He also competed in the 10 miles Scratch in both 1954 and 1958.
