Biography

Argentina’s Miguel Ángel Zaworotny was a handball administrator and referee. Zaworotny began his career with the Argentine Handball Federation in 1968 and later became a manager at FeMeBal. Zaworotny was one of the first five graduates from Argentina to qualify as an international referee with the International Handball Federation (IHF). Together with Eduardo Brosio the pair were the best pair of referees in Argentina for more than a decade with them officiating at World Cups and continental championships. Zaworotny and Brosio refereed together in four matches at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

During his career Zaworotny served as a regional, national, and Pan-American chief referee. He was the first person from Argentina to have an official position at the IHF and he later became the manager of the Pan American Handball Federation. Zaworotny was a contributor to the publication Handball Magazine, the national handball archives, and a book about the sport which was published in 2004.
