Despite having a relatively short career, Drago Ivković was known as one of the greats as an early pioneer of Croatian cycling. Born in 1907, Ivković first worked making gingerbread before turning to cycling, helping to found the Graničar sports club in 1927. In 1930 he finished as the runner-up at the Yugoslav National Road Race Championships before winning the race a year later. In 1932 he once again finished second at the national championships, as well as 13th in the amateur road race at the UCI World Championships. Ivković was also named as an alternate for the road race at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but he did not start. From 1969 to 1990 the Drago Ivković Memorial race from Zagreb to Đurđevac was held in his honour.
