Biography

In 1952 cyclist Arend van ‘t Hof had several podium finishes in local races in the Netherlands, earning himself a place on the Olympic team for the 1952 Helsinki Games. Van ‘t Hof then finished 10th in the individual road race in Helsinki in a small group of riders who were just over five minutes behind the race winner. He continued to have good results after the Games, including winning the 1953 edition of the Ronde van Haarlem-Noord one-day race and a stage of that years’ Route de France. By 1956 he had turned professional, finishing third in the road race at the Dutch national championships.
