Born in Spain in 1932, Ricardo Vázquez later moved to Uruguay where he became a cyclist. In 1957 Vázquez finished eighth overall at the Tour of Uruguay, including winning the 11th stage and finishing on the podium on three other stages. He continued to have success at his home race, finishing third overall in 1961 and second two years later. After winning another stage of the race in 1964 Vázquez was selected to compete at the Tokyo Olympics, finishing 45th in the road race and 10th in the team time trial.
