Biography

Norbert Verougstraete was a Belgian cyclist who had a brief career during the mid-1950s. As an amateur rider Verougstraete finished second at the Manx International race on the Isle of Man in 1954. Two years later, and still as an amateur, he finished second in the road race at the UCI World Championships in København and third at the Belgian road race championships. Later that same year he competed in the individual road race at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, finishing 23rd. In 1957 Verougstraete turned professional and won a stage of the Tour du Sud-Est, in addition to finishing the race third overall. That same year he also had his only one-day win with victory in the Bruxelles-Liège race.
