Biography

Dutch cyclist Philippus Vethaak competed either side of World War II and represented his country at the Olympics. In 1936 Vethaak was selected to ride in the road race at the Berlin Games but he did not finish the course. From 1946 to 1949 he rode as a professional cyclist and won several races in North Brabant. Despite his short career, the Flip Vethaak Trophy has been awarded annually to athletes from his birth town of Vlaardingen.
