Biography

Having finished third in the National Amateur Road Race Championship in 1951, Graham Vines won the race the following year and secured his place on the British road race team at the Helsinki Olympics. He finished 31st out of 111 starters in the individual race, and helped Great Britain to an 11th place finish in the team event.

Vines turned semi-professional with the Wearwell Cycles team in 1954 before winding up his career in 1958 after two seasons at Condor. The highlight of his professional career came in 1955 when he won the BLRC (British League of Racing Cyclists) National Professional Road Race title. That same year Vines was runner-up in the second stage of the Tour of Britain from Clacton to Skegness. By profession, Vines was a civil engineer.
