Hjalmar Väre participated in the road time trial at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, finishing 66th in the individual road time trial and fifth in the team event. No other results are documented for him.
He changed his name from Wahlroos to Väre in 1906 and worked as a railway man and stationmaster. With his first wife, Ida Maria Erkintytär Tuomaala, he had two daughters and one son. After they divorced, Väre married Matilda Wäre Salmi.
