Dave Watson

Born in London in 1946 Dave Watson later moved to Australia, where he became a national cycling champion. In his early career Watson was selected to ride in the team time trial at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where the quartet placed 14th. Two years later he represented Australia at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. He missed out on the possibility of a medal in the 4,000 metres individual pursuit after withdrawing from the bronze medal ride-off after suffering a chest infection.

In 1969 Watson finished second in the individual pursuit at the Australian national track championships, before winning the title the following year. From 1970 to 1973 he rode professionally, competing in multiple races in Europe, including the 1973 edition of Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium. During this time he lived in England whilst representing the TI-Raleigh team. His daughter Bronwen represented Australia in rowing at the 2012 London Olympics.
