Biography

Polish cyclist Mieczysław Wilczewski began his career with a stage win at the 1951 edition of the Tour of Egypt. Back home Wilczewski won a stage of the Tour de Pologne in 1952, before winning the overall classification of the race the following year. During the decade he won several more stages of the Tour, along with multiple stages of the Peace Race. Towards the end of his cycling career he was selected to ride in the 100 kilometres team time trial at the 1960 Roma Olympics, where Poland placed 10th. Following his retirement Wilczewski worked as a dentist in Poland before emigrating to the United States in the 1970s.
