In 1968 Leif Yli was part of the Norwegian quartet that finished fifth in the team time trial at the Mexico City Olympics. One year later Yli became the individual time trial and team time trial champion at the national championships. He retained his team time trial title in 1970 before winning the Roserittet one-day race a year later.
