Mian Faruq Shah studied Agriculture at the University of Reading in Berkshire and earned a British pilot’s license in 1931. Later, he changed his Indian nationality to Afghan. He served as Assistant Director of Agriculture and Sports Minister. As vice-captain of the nation field hockey team, he placed fifth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. After Pakistan gained its independence, he returned and lived on Shahpur Farm near Peshawar.
