Biography

A 5-handicap player. Jean, Count Pastré came from a long line of wealthy Marseille ship-owners and merchants. He played polo mostly in France and was a member of the 1920 Paris Open winning team. When the French Polo Federation was formed on 15 December 1921, Pastré was elected its first secretary. At the 1924 Olympics he played at number one in two of France’s four games, and they happened to be their biggest defeats: 16-2 by Great Britain and 15-1 by Spain. He lived at the magnificent family home, Château Pastré near Marseilles, but on his divorce in 1940, his wife Lily got the château as part of the divorce settlement.
