As an opening bowler and mid-order batsman, Alfred Powlesland was a useful all-rounder. In Paris, he failed to make a significant score in either innings but took five wickets in the match. He was one of the more experienced members of the Devon and Somerset Wanderers team, who represented Britain at the 1900 Olympics. Powlesland played for Exeter and also Minor Counties cricket for Devon in 1901, and on his début against Surrey Second XI, he took 3 wickets for 22 in their first innings.
