Ernest Ebbage was a member of the K Division of the Metropolitan Police tug-of-war team. They were effectively the Great Britain third team, and won the bronze medal outright at the 1908 Olympics after their scheduled opponents, Sweden, scratched. Ebbage’s one and only Olympic appearance was therefore in the semi-final defeat by the eventual winners, Great Britain’s first team, represented by the London City Police.
