Ernest Thorne was just one of three members of the City of London Police team to make their Olympic début in 1920. The others were Harry Stiff and George Canning. Thorne pulled in all three matches, against the United States, Belgium and Netherlands, which the police team, representing Great Britain, won 2-0 each time.
