Arthur Köser played at number two in Germany’s two games against Hungary at the 1936 Olympics. During World War II, Köser was arrested by the Gestapo in August 1944 for allegedly writing defeatist letters to his son, who served his country in Poland and lost his life in January 1945. Arthur was released from a Berlin prison in April 1945 after the Soviets bombarded the prison and surrounded the city in what was the Fall of Berlin. Köser fled to Hamburg on foot, arriving one month later. Despite being in poor health at the time, he recovered and lived beyond the age of 90.
