During his life Jeff Sankies had a variety of roles in Guyana including being a sportsman, sports official, and politician. Sankies competed in judo during the 1970s where he earned a place on Guyana’s Olympic team for the 1976 Montréal Games. He was scheduled to fight in the half-heavyweight and open class, however, Guyana was one of the 29 countries that boycotted the Games, with Sankies not competing in either event. He later moved into sports administration where he served as the President of the Guyana Judo Association. Sankies was also involved in politics, becoming an executive member of the Justice For All Party.
