Biography

Douglas Cardozo was a Venezuelan judoka who competed in the heavyweight class. In 1999 Cardozo won bronze at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg and gold at the Pan American Championships in Montevideo. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 2000 Sydney Games. At the Olympics, however, he did not appear at the weigh-in for his opening bout against the eventual gold medallist David Douillet (FRA), resulting in his automatic disqualification from the event. After failing to qualify for the 2004 Games, Cardozo retired from the sport and became a coach.
