Reggie Pridmore attended the now defunct Elstow School, Bedford, and later Bedford Grammar School. The former was closed down permanently in 1916 when it was requisitioned as a school for Army officers. At school he was a notable hockey player and cricketer and later achieved distinction in both sports. He also played rugby. At hockey, Pridmore played inside-left for Coventry, and represented England 19 times between 1908 and 1913. At the 1908 Olympics he was England’s leading scorer with four goals against Ireland, and hat-tricks against both France and Scotland. As a cricketer Pridmore played 14 times for Warwickshire as a middle order batsman between 1909 and 1912 and also appeared occasionally for Hertfordshire. His 49 against Derbyshire in his second match for Warwickshire was his highest innings in First Class cricket. During the war, Pridmore served as a major in the Royal Horse & Field Artillery, winning a Military Cross on the Somme in 1916, before being killed in action in Italy. He was a stockbroker at the time of his death.
