A fine full-back, George Sime joined Stepps Hockey Club, Glasgow, as a 17-year-old and enjoyed a career stretching nearly 20 years. He won regional Scottish representative honours before gaining his first senior international cap in 1937. His international career lasted until 1951, and he was honoured with the captaincy of his country in 1950. At the 1948 London Olympics, Sime played in all five of Great Britain’s matches including the gold medal match, which saw them lose to India.
