Lal Shah Bokhari was the Indian flag-bearer at the 1932 Olympic Opening Ceremony. He played halfback and was captain of the team. Shah Bokhari was born in Faisalabad and worked for the Punjab Provincial Service. After the partition of India and Pakistan, he served in the Haj Pilgrim department and was president of the Delhi Hockey Association. Upon Pakistan’s independence he served as a diplomat for Pakistan, serving as their last Ambassador for Pakistan in Iraq, among other positions. He died in Colombo, where he was posted as his country’s High Commissioner to Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
