Biography

Balbir Singh Sidhu played hockey for Kenya at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Singh Sidhu’s parents had emigrated to Kenya in 1927 but the family returned to India in 1938. He played hockey at Ludhiana College in Punjab, and then returned to Kenya in 1949, where he played for Sikh Union Nairobi from 1949-52. Singh Sidhu joined Kenya Police, playing with them from 1952-58, and helping them win the M. R. D’Souza Gold Cup in 1955. In September 1966 Singh Sidhu emigrated to the UK, where he played with the Sevenoaks and Beckenham clubs, but then gave up hockey to concentrate on his other passion, golf.
