Aman Ullah Karim was educated at the Government English School (GES) in Tapah, and later at Anderson High School in Ipoh. He displayed his talents on the hockey pitch from an early age. Karim played on the Johor team that won the 1955 quadrangular against Negri Sembilan, Selangor, and Malacca.
