As goalkeeper of the Dutch women’s field hockey team, Det de Beus won every possible title. She won the Olympic gold medal in 1984, the 1978, 1983 and 1986 World Cups, the 1984 and 1987 European Championships and the 1987 Champions Trophy. She was also a member of the victorious Dutch team at the 1979 IFWHA World Championships, held by the then separate women’s hockey federation. Always competing for Eindhoven, De Beus never won a national title, which was always won by HGC or Amsterdam during her career. Known for her dislike of protective goalkeeper clothing - she preferred non-restrictive and tight clothes - De Beus nearly missed the 1986 World Championships in the Netherlands after she was hospitalized following a domestic match, due to a ruptured heart muscle. De Beus, who played her last international match at the 1988 Olympics, later worked in several manager positions, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Dutch inline skating federation (as interim president) and a seal rehabilitation centre. She died at age 55, following a battle with cancer.
