Emeric Hajos

Emeric Hajos was a Hungarian-Romanian painter, illustrator, graphic artist, drawing teacher and art author. From 1928-1932, he studied at the College of Fine Arts in Cluj having his first exhibition in 1930 at the Banat Art Salon in Timișoara (Temesvár). After that, he regularly participated in collective exhibitions in Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara and Arad.

Eventually, Hajos settled in Arad and became a lecturer of drawing at the local College of Fine Arts. There, he also joined the group “Pro Arte” of modernist young artists. In addition, he was a graphic editor and illustrator of local cultural magazines.

Hajos wrote the column “For Hungarian Art” of the Transylvanian Newspaper and art historical and art critical articles in various publications. In 1944, he became a teacher at the School of Folk Art in Arad and actively participated in the cultural activities of the Hungarian Folk Association. After World War II, Hajos became president of the Union of the Artists of Romania in Arad.

In 1952 he presented the oil painting Fencer.
