Emil Grub played the position of centre-forward for the Red Sox Hockey Club in Zürich throughout the mid and late 1940s. He first played for the Swiss national team in a May 1947 match against France held in Lausanne, and appeared in two more international matches later that year against Italy and Belgium.
In 1948, he was one of one of three members of the Red Sox team to be selected to compete for Switzerland at the London Olympics, which finished in fifth place with one win and two ties. He retired after playing a brief stint with Stade Lausanne in 1950. Grub was a brewer by profession.
